So...it's probably no surprise that we're kind of obsessed with superfoods over here. And there's good reason to be! Superfoods are foods known to pack high doses of essential vitamins, minerals and nutrients in smaller doses so you don't need a lot to get the benefit. Food is one of - if not the - best ways to stay healthy and support a strong immune system. We know superfoods can be intimidating by some of their exotic names or strange shapes, so we're going to breakdown and demystify our top superfoods for 2021:
Straight from the Andes in South America, these berries have a little tart, at little sweet and a little sour with a bit meatier texture than a blueberry. They're considered anti-inflammatory thanks to carotenoids and a high dose of vitamins and minerals. These berries contain a type of antioxidant called phytosterols that can help lower the bad cholesterol in your blood.
These bitter little nibs are the broken down cacao beans that have been 'fermented' oftentimes in the natural sun. This fermentation process turns an extremely bitter seed (cacao) into the magical flavor of chocolate we so love! Cacao nibs are a good source of magnesium and tryptophan to support relaxation and mood.
Not just any walnut, we take high quality organic walnuts and soak and sprout them sprout making it easier for the body to absorb its nutrients like omega-3 fatty acids known to improve brain function. The best part? Sprouted walnuts have a butter-like taste when dehydrated. Add a little sprinkle of salt and transform your experience with walnuts completely!
These anti-aging berries, which normally come in a powder form like the image above, have an abundance of antioxidants like vitamin C and polyphenols. With a very deep blue/purple color and very berry taste with a hint of bitter, it's easily the perfect addition to get that berry flavor. They have the most antioxidants by weight out of any berry! Move over acai, we're moving on up to maqui...
The classic lemon. Don't underestimate the power of it! Besides packing vitamin c and being great for natural skincare, lemon has other amazing properties and is always available, so it's a great go-to superfood. Great to aid in digestion, especially with warm water first thing in the morning, it can help balance pH and always tastes good!
The good news? It's easy to get these superfoods into your diet each week, with many of them in one of our six delicious flavors of Supernola. Stay tuned for a new superfood packed snack launching this summer from Supernola!
